If you're looking for the world's quietest canine, go no farther than the Basenji; its name means "barkless dog."
But the breed makes up for it with a "yodeling" sound that can definitely get its message through.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) ranks this cute little dog as one among the quietest canines.
Although they are naturally wary of strangers and protective of their owners and property, this breed is not one to yell at them.
"Pugs aren't exactly recognized for their heightened sensitivity to their surroundings or their boisterous disposition.
"They're not big barkers by any stretch of the imagination; rather, they're just lazy dogs who want to sit in your lap all day," explains Gilmartin.
According to the American Kennel Club, these quiet giants fall somewhere in the center of the barking spectrum.
The Bernese is often regarded as a laid-back, good-with-kids breed.
